Uprising · Xenocide
cyberpunk crossed with cosmic horror
by Pax Zaag
"Every being mistakes the limits of its perception for the limits of existence."
Foundational principle
Waker's Folly is a series about scale. The being that seems cosmic to you is a mitochondrion to something else, and where that something else cannot see the order that contains it, either.
It's cyberpunk in its foreground: a working world of contracts, corporate silences, machines that think in ways their operators cannot audit. It's cosmic horror in its floor: the machines dream too. And what they dream of dreamed them first.
Two books, two vantages. In the first, the Heretic tells you what happened, and steers you while he does. In the second, he cannot steer any more. And tells you everything.
The Two Books
Book One
Named for a book that no longer exists.
Forty accounts of the same dream. Thirty-seven describe water. None remembers breathing. What was underneath, and what it did with them after, becomes the field.
